I have a 95 honda prelude i changed the clutch master cylinder and now i have no clutch pressure what so ever?

anyone know how to get the pressure back?I have a 95 honda prelude i changed the clutch master cylinder and now i have no clutch pressure what so ever?
this is normal- it takes a while to get any fluid out. do this- pump the pedal 10-15 times with your hand, as you'll need to pull it back up at first. hold it down, and have a helper open the bleeder screw. tighten the screw. keep repeating this, until nothing but clear fluid comes out. may take 20 or more times of doing this if all the fluid drained out.I have a 95 honda prelude i changed the clutch master cylinder and now i have no clutch pressure what so ever?

Should I sell my car and keep my bike?

I have two vehicles; a 1993 Ford Probe GT in great condition with only 57,500 original miles on it. And I just got a 1998 Yamaha FZR600 with 23,400 miles I've had the bike for a little over a week and its off to a bad start it has mechanical problems and my friend dropped it on the left side during a test drive ruining the whole appearance of the whole bike. So now my bike has mechanical and cosmetic issues. But i like motorcycles way more than cars but how would I get by if its raining or snowing? I like my car it has been very dependable for the last two and a half years that I had it, but its behind on maintenance, its going to need brakes, oil change, clutch, struts. I am thinking if I sell my car I would get my beat up bike like new again and I'll have left over money for first month's rent. But I honestly don't want to sell my car but I can't have both I gotta choose one. So what do you all think?car or street bike?Should I sell my car and keep my bike?
Me - I keep my bike, always.

But, I'm in a different situation.

You should dump the problem bike and keep the reliable car.

For now, at least.

Later, when you don't have to worry about rent (first, last, or otherwise) get yourself another bike.Should I sell my car and keep my bike?
I'd go with the car for sure. It's a whole lot safer, you have more room for people, more room for whatever, and like you said... weather issues. If your car is giving you too much trouble, you could maybe upgrade to a better car with the money you get from selling your bike.Should I sell my car and keep my bike?
id rather have the bike but it just wont work out because of weather, u gotta have a carShould I sell my car and keep my bike?
put you bike on hold and get your car fixed and in a month or so once you get your car up to par then you move onto your bike and fix it up.dont sell any of your things because if you wait you can keep them all if you really think about it.Should I sell my car and keep my bike?
It really depends on where you live. How much snow do you get? Is it raining a lot?

I'd stick with the car. I love bikes but don't forget about when you buy something. It doesn't even have to be big! How will yu get it home without a car?

Also how long have you been riding? I've been riding a few years and I have to say that I've thought about dropping my car and living with just the bike. I even tested it out for a month over the summer last year, leaving the car at home and taking hte bike everywhere. It was really annoying when I had to do errands, a normal 1 hour errand trip that stopped at 3 stores became and ordeal as I had to go home between each stop and couldn't get what i needed every time because I couldnt fit it on the back.

  • How do you change gear smoothly?

I'm learning how to drive but find it really difficult to change gear smoothly. My instructor explains it as a swapping of the feet. So I take my foot off the gas and go down on the clutch, change gear and then take the clutch to the biting point quickly and then go back down on the gas and slowly bring up the rest of the clutch from the biting point. But each time i do this there is a small bump feeling and it annoys me. If i try to do it as a slow swapping of the feet as my instructor explains it seems to take too long and I lose the momentum. Please help me. Sorry if this is confusing. How do you change gear smoothly?
Think of the gas and clutch as a teter-toter so when the clutch goes down the gas comes up to stop and the other way to go.

Replace clutch pads on nissan pulsar n15 1998?

i have a nissian pulsar n15 1998 cable clutch and i was wondering how easy it is to replace the clutch plates ovously i need a new presure plate as well.

What im asking is will i need to remove the engine to change the clutch plates or is it defferent with this model of car ! can anyone detail what has to be done for a nissian pulsar n15 1998 clutch change.

the resaon why the clutch needs changing is cause the gears are slipping cant get to 80 km with out it slipping slips outta first and 2nd really bad as well

any info would be help full any links or anything will be help full THANK YOUReplace clutch pads on nissan pulsar n15 1998?
First off, there are no clutch plates. Only a clutch plate. Singular. It's a Pulsar and doesn't have multiple clutch plates.

Second, to replace the clutch assembly (pressure plate, disk, pilot bearing), you only need to remove the transmission from the engine. If your mate is a mechanic, he should know how to do this and can show you what he does.

Your best option is to buy a clutch kit for your car. It will come with everything you need, i.e. pressure plate, clutch disk, pilot bearing and alignment tool.

Should be 8-10 bolts holding the pressure plate to the flywheel, and everything else is pretty easy to do.

But, as mentioned earlier, if your trans is slipping out of gear, it could be you have a bad transmission. So, if after you replace your clutch assembly, it still keeps happening, get a different transmission.Replace clutch pads on nissan pulsar n15 1998?
Just need to remove the gearbox only.

You buy a clutch kit, which comes with a clutch plate, pressure plate and release bearing.

It's an easy job for a guy who knows cars (mechanic), but too hard for an amateur.Replace clutch pads on nissan pulsar n15 1998?
If the box is jumping out of gear that's prob the box, not the clutch. $$$$, Speed Racer!!

Clutch Problems? Car vibrates when I feather my clutch?

For starters I've been drving manual for 6 years now, so I know how how to drive.

Recently after long drives or a full day of running errands my car will start to shake as I'm feathering my clutch. Only happens in first and sometimes second gear.

Do I need to change my clutch?Clutch Problems? Car vibrates when I feather my clutch?
The clutch, pressure plate assembly is exhibiting the same characteristics as when your disc brakes vibrate when coming to a stop.

The cure is resurfacing your flywheel and replacing the clutch and pressure plate and, while you're in there, might as well toss in a new throw out bearing.Clutch Problems? Car vibrates when I feather my clutch?
i got a brand new clutch like a year ago and that just started happening to me. maybe it just needs to be adjusted/bleed? i cant need a new one. i dont drive that much or put that much strain on it. weird. i'd see what other alternatives there are before just going out and buyin a new oneClutch Problems? Changing the clutch release bearing on a peugeot 306.?

    1.4 Alpine M Reg 1994:

Can anybody out there provide a detailed instruction on how to change the clutch release bearing and what tools are needed. would be much appreciated. thank you.Changing the clutch release bearing on a peugeot 306.?
Wow, gsac, you are full of questions today. But since you like my answers...here goes. Step by step. Changing a clutch on a 306, or any of the TU family of Peugeot engines (205, 106, 306) with an MA 5 or MA 4 gearbox.

NEED TOOLS: socket wrenches, torque wrenches, hex allen/imbus of 8mm. maybe even screwdrivers and hammers, heck...everything a mechanic has!

From off the top of my head...

    1. Remove battery .

    2. Jack up the front end of car one foot off the ground

    3. Drain gearbox oil, find the drain plug (8mm square bar needed).

    4. Disconnect the gear selector rods at rear of gearbox. (two)

    5. Disconnect anything else that seems to be in the way of reaching the starter motor.

    6. Remove starter motor, and of course the red battery cable.

    7. Remove black battery ground wire.

    8. Remove your hat and swear a lot.

    9. disconnect speedometer cable from rear of gearbox.

    10. disconnect clutch cable from top of gearbox.

    11. Support the entire gearbox from below with a jack on 4 wheels. Then remove any connection between gearbox and left-hand motor mount.

    12. Unbolt about 12 bolts that join the gearbox to the engine. Some of them are hard to see and reach with tools and fingers. Lie on your back to see all screws.

    13. I think I remember unbolting the exhaust pipe under the engine, but forget why at the moment.

    14. separate the gearbox from the engine. It does not need to be forced. Check for a bolt you overlooked.

    15. Swear again, cause a difficult thing is about to happen...

    16. Drop the gearbox down below the car. there is only two millimeters to spare in any direction. AAAaaarrrrrrgggg!!

    17. Notice the position of the clutch spring. Remove the 6 bolts progressively, little by little.

    18. Remove the clutch spring (also called pressure plate).

    19. Remove the clutch disc. (also called driven plate)

    20. Remove the throw-out bearing (release / thrust bearing) from the gearbox side, on the shaft.

    21. Take these 3 pieces to the autoparts store and buy the exact size. Give the old pieces to save yourself a %26quot;core charge%26quot; for the used metal.

    22. Put it back together....use a proper size rod to temporarily, perfectly center the plate behind the spring. TORQUE ALL BOLTS to specs.

    23. Put the release bearing on the gearbox shaft. HOLD it firmly in place with some rubber bands. It must not slide out of place for the next steps. Ribber bands can later break away, we don't care. (TAKE A MOMENT to compare the spinning effort of the old bearing compared to the new one. Feel the diff?)

    24. UPwards goes the gearbox. Have a friend help you, it's heavy mate! Position it perfectly. Push the shaft into the engine hole. (I don't remember a gasket at all)

    25. Bolt up all those gearbox bolts, to the proper torque!. I make it sound easy don't I?

    26. Put all that little stuff back on....I'm getting tired now.

    27. New gear oil back in the fill hole (directly behind left tyre). Replace drain plug. Fill until it runs out the edge. Add a new copper ring gasket.

    28. hook up battery, gear linkage, speedo cable....

    29. drink a beer

    30. don't phone me.....

    31. maybe I forgot some little things..have an experienced friend do this with you. I made it sound easy. First time is very hard. Fourth time is easy.Changing the clutch release bearing on a peugeot 306.?

Cost to replace a clutch on a 1996 audi a4 quattro?

The clutch on my Audi is really old. I need to replace it but i want to know how much it costs. one mechanic told me about $1200, is that reasonable? I would like to know if anyone has ever changed the clutch on their Audi. How much did it cost you?

Would it be cheaper to buy the piece separately, then just have a mechanic put it in?

it be nice if people with a similar car to mine would answer thanks bro'sCost to replace a clutch on a 1996 audi a4 quattro?
That is reasonable, consider the fact that the transmission has to be removed from the engine. However, you could purchase the clutch kit to save on parts. It's the labor that bites the wallet.

remove the belt remove the center bolt carefully, I vice grip the drive plate back off the bolt under the drive plate has shims save them while pulling off the drive watch shims can stick to end of the shaft and inside the drive too. Remove the 1.5%26quot;external snap ring pull the pulley off. disconnect the white electrical connector remove the next snap ring holding the magnet coil and it will fall off. Install the new holding coil this has to be lined up so the wire is at the top and may take some one holding it up when you drop the snap ring on. instal the pulley and snap ring drop the new drive plate on with the saved shims and if you have .012%26quot; to .020%26quot; between the drive and pulley it will function properly. I did one last week and today when one arrives I will replace one on a 1997 truck. Nissan Gets almost $360 for the clutch sure you don't want to replace the entire compressor? Some aftermarket compressors will be less costly. 8mm 10 mm 14mm 12mm wrenches sockets and good quality snap ring pliers. No special tools needed. If things are oily under that pulley the compressor is done.

  • I just replaced the clutch on my 1996 Ford F-150. After installing it the clutch will not engage when running.

Before I change the clutch, It was making a loud strange noise. Bad enough that you could not run the AC. Thats how I came up with the clutch problem. The new clutch went in fine and looks to be running true. I tried to add some freon but the system really doesn't want to take any. I did disconnect the high side hose while instaling the clutch and lost quiet a lot of freon. Why want the clutch engage???I just replaced the clutch on my 1996 Ford F-150. After installing it the clutch will not engage when running.
1996 should have R-134 instead of Freon (R-12). There is a pressure switch that will not allow the compressor to turn with low pressure. When you released the refrigerant, the A/C lost pressure and opened the switch circuit.

You need to have the A/C recharged.

You'll probably want to add a little bit of oil to the system (A/C oil, for R-134 I think it's PAG). You'll need to vacuum the system down, many parts stores rent these vacuum pumps. Once the system is evacuated, you'll need to start adding back the refrigerant. There may be a tag under the hood stating the amount it takes.

You should be able to put in at least one to one and a half cans into the system on the suction side. You can then wait and let the system equilize.

Start the pickup turn on the A/C and see if it starts cycling. If so, then continue adding the refrigerant until the proper amount is in the system. You may need to by pass the pressure switch (i.e., jumper the switch to activate the compressor) so the system will start sucking in refrigerant.

There are some R-134 kits that have gauges to indicate pressures within the system, you'll want to check the system to make sure you don't overcharge it.

Or take it to a shop and have it charged up.I just replaced the clutch on my 1996 Ford F-150. After installing it the clutch will not engage when running.
could be electricalI just replaced the clutch on my 1996 Ford F-150. After installing it the clutch will not engage when running.
Depends on how much freon you added back in. When you pulled the hose off, you lost most if not all your freon. One can won't do it. Theres a low pressure cutout switch in most new systems that shuts down the compressor to prevent damage when the freon runs low. Add two more cans and see what happens. It may take a while until the compressor starts running when it senses some pressure. And it will cut in and out as it charges. Also, just for giggles, make sure that the you put the plug back on the clutch. Hey, mistakes happen to the best of us.

And for safety, make sure you hook the can to the LOW pressure side and wear safety glasses. Hook it on the high side and the can will blowup in your hand. Be safe and good luck.I just replaced the clutch on my 1996 Ford F-150. After installing it the clutch will not engage when running.
If you removed the hose you lost the system charge. You will need to pull the system into a vacuum for a minimum of 30 mins. and recharge the system with the proper amount of freon. It would also be wise to add oil to the system before charging. The clutch will not engauge if the system pressure is low (low pressure switch on accumulator) and it will not work properly if you just try to charge freon into the system with air and it could even damage the system. You also need to make sure the clutch coil was replaced and the cltch gap is correct.I just replaced the clutch on my 1996 Ford F-150. After installing it the clutch will not engage when running.

Look in you owners manual. If nothing there you dont have to change it. Fluid in the clutch system is sealed on some vehicles. You shouldn't have to change fluid except when the clutch or any part of the clutch is repaired. Then it should be flushed. How often do a turbo stick shift need to change transmission fluid, clutch pad / fluid etc? ?
Usually people base on changing Transmission fluid based on how far the vehicle has driven and based on how hard work you put that transmission through. But I think it's about 30K Km to 50K Km for the fluid. It depends on what your manual says.

Your clutch depending if you ride it or you beat the living hell out of it. Could be anywhere from 30K Km to 60Km.

But if you just steer around and you know how to drive stick, you should get something 70K Km if not more.

All depends how you drive. And how you treat it.

I suppose it's possible, but on a Honda it's highly unlikely that 2hrs of abuse led to it's demise. It had likely been abused long before you got to it!I got a honda cbr f4i 2002 and it needs the clutch changed think i burned it out while learning how to ride?
Well, for one thing you don't say what condition the clutch was in before you started riding. If the bike is already seven years old you have no idea how abused that clutch may or may not have been before you got it.

And yes, if the clutch is already less-than-perfect, if you ride hard or aren't smooth on the clutch -- which you won't be if you're just learning to ride, if you don't fully release the clutch lever while riding, it is possible to burn out a clutch in just two hours.I got a honda cbr f4i 2002 and it needs the clutch changed think i burned it out while learning how to ride?

I bet the previous owner abused the bike with clutch up wheelies.I got a honda cbr f4i 2002 and it needs the clutch changed think i burned it out while learning how to ride?
Got to agree with the other posters. The amount of clutch slippage that might be caused by a new rider just learning to start off is not nearly enough to toast the clutch. An afternoon of full-throttle starts at the drag strip might leave the clutch a little crispy, but even then, it will usually be okay with an adjustment. Get a dirt bike stuck in the mud and try to power it out while fanning the clutch. That might fry your clutch in short order.

Unless you aren't letting on how much you really abused that clutch, it had to be pretty well gone before you got your hands on it.I got a honda cbr f4i 2002 and it needs the clutch changed think i burned it out while learning how to ride?
Yes it is possible, but to know for sure, pull the inspection cover, and see if there is a burnt smell coming from the clutch pack. If no burnt smell then no burnt clutches(you will know) then follow jacobs advice and check the oil and change it, it could be low which can cause a bit of problems, since like has been posted, the clutches are %26quot;wet%26quot; meaning the oil, fluid, keeps them wet and allows them to engage and disengage smoothly.I got a honda cbr f4i 2002 and it needs the clutch changed think i burned it out while learning how to ride?
You sure it's the clutch burnt out, or the cable needs adjusting?

The cable can be stretched in about 2 hours of riding, but not the clutch.

Well my clutch cable is busted, I picked up the car and its all covered underneath. The middle plate is welded on to the car, thus I cannot remove that plate. I need details on how to remove it, ThanksHow to change a cable clutch on a 68 volkswagen beetle?
Loomom and William are both correct, but let me add to both of their answers. When you are doing the replacement, it is also a good idea to replace the hook on the clutch pedal while doing the job. The hook will wear out and eventually break. It should onlu cost about $5 or so. Replace it while you are in there with the hole thing taken apart. You will be mad at yourself after all that work only to have to do it again a short time down the road. The hook is held onto the clutch pedal rod with a push pin; just hit it out with a pin or nail. Be sure to grease the hook before installing the cable as you will have direct metal to metal contact. The electrical tape wont stick to grease, but if you wrap it a few times to hold the cable on you wont have any problems. The tape will just pull and break once installed and fall off; no big deal.

Also, when pushing the cable through the tunnel, it may get stuck as it gets to the tranny. There is a flexible tube with a bend in it. If you have a second person, have them push the cable while you climb underneath and wiggle the flex tube. If you do not have a second person you can pull the upper part of the tube out to help the pushing through process. Be sure to put the spacers/washers back in the same place. The spacers put the proper bend in the flex tube. Once the cable is through, reinstall the flex tube.

After a few miles/time of clutch usage, you will need to readjust the cable as it will stretch.

Have fun.How to change a cable clutch on a 68 volkswagen beetle?
Loomo has the basics, but there are a few land mines in this job. First is the way the clutch cable just hooks on the end of the pedal. To make it stay put for replacement, I used to electric tape it in place. This way the tape fell off after the job was done. The cable had to be pulled tight as the pedal cluster was installed or tape or not the cable would fall off.

Next, you had to hook the clutch cable guide tube with a finger and see if it was still firmly attached to the tunnel.

The flex tube between the body work and the trans had to be undone so the threaded end of the cable would slide through.

Slip on the flex tube, and thread the butterfly nut on the cable after it was speared thru the clutch activator arm sticking out of the trans bell housing. Pump the clutch a few times and re adjust.

How to change a cable clutch on a 68 volkswagen beetle?
There is no need to go under the car. I did some 30 years ago so here it goes (memory?).

Remove the the brake-clutch pedal assembly(2 bolts) and the cable will come out. Install new cable with grease on it through the tube and reattach to pedal assm. Then fish the threaded end through the clutch fork lever on the bellhousing.

Do not tighten the lock nut untill you press down the pedal a few times to get the proper freeplay. How to change a cable clutch on a 68 volkswagen beetle?

How to change an clutch in an 87 crx?

remove the tranny and change it.How to change an clutch in an 87 crx?
drop the tranny, take the throw out bearing off, take the pressure plate off, then the clutch will come right out. you might check the pilot bearing in the crank and look at the bearing retainer, where the throw out bearing runs on, to see if its rough, check the flywheel for burn places ans cracks. if everything looks good, install the clutch, but check the clutch, it should say flywheel side, then just put it in, then the pressure plate, then the throwout bearing, then the tranny.

    How to change a clutch?

The procedures are fairly similar but vary some for different cars. Basically you support the engine, remove the transmission, bell housing and clutch plate. Then you inspect the flywheel to determine if it needs work. If so you remove it and have it surfaced. You then replace the flywheel, the pilot bearing, throw out bearing, clutch disk, Pressure plate, bell housing and transmission. That isn't step by step as it varies some from one car to another. You really shouldn't attempt it with out a book and some prior knowledge/expertise.How to change a clutch?
    for real?

Its a pain in the butt.

You need to find a guide for your car (that will give you instructions you can find them at your local auto store averageing about $20-28) and it would be most helpful if you had a lift otherwise you will add about 1.5 hours just from having to go under and out so many times. (on average 3 hours with a full garage to your disposal.)

Pay a professional especially if you don't have anyone to check your work you could do more damage than good.

That檚 a fairly straight forward job. The things to watch out for are, the flywheel, get it checked and find someone with a cup grinder to resurface it. Don檛 let anyone cut it flat.

Check the pilot bearing in the crank, and change it if in doubt. Make sure you have an alignment tool for the disc, make sure the U joints are good, and you should be fine. Oh, and I檓 not sure about an ?7, but some of the Mazda transmission Fords have some rubber seals on top of the transmission in the back that should be sealed, check with a Ford tech.

its a pretty good little job to do,,you need a transmission jack,,or a good floor jack,,and a good place to work on it,,and you will need to take the flywheel and get it re-surfaced before you put a new clutch in it,,otherwise it may burn the new one out also,,i own a repair shop in Tennessee,,and i wont do one without turning the flywheel on it,,otherwise your just wasting your time on it,,and money,,i have to do them ,,and guarantee them,,so i cant afford to be wrong,,when it comes to a job like that,,,you can do it,,but you need the proper tools for the job,,otherwise you would be better off taking it somewhere and having it done,,this way you will get a guarantee with it,,and if it tears back up,,you just take it back to them,,sometimes its better to do it this way,,good luck with it,,i hope this helps.Just wondering if anyone knows how complex it is to change a clutch on an87 ranger 2 wheel drive?
well not one of those mechanics bothered to mention how freaking hard it is to get the line off of the hydraulic clutch, good luck with this one as i have only had the oppertunity to do one vehicle like this and man what a pain. for some reason ford liked the idea with that set up. but also remember to torque the flywheel down and check the rear main seal on the engine and anything else thats going to be right there when you have it apart

    OMG!

If you need instructions - it isn't for you. FWD clutch jobs are a nightmare. Last year I swapped the clutch in an Integra. I had to disconnect just about every bolt there exist on the engine.

On top of that you have to hoist the engine and disconnect the steering knuckle and the CV joint. It wasn't worth the money saved.

If you still want to do it, it is best to get a repair manual (I used Chilton but Hayes and others are about the same).

You should purchase a Haynes or Chilton repair manual for your specific make and model. The steps involved are a little too numerous for this type of forum. A manual can be had for under $20 - with the added benefit that it'll have photos of the steps involved. You can usually pick one up at a local auto parts store.

    Anew pressure plate.

you have to dismantle the tranny,be carefull when inserting the new throw out berring,or you'll destroy the clutches, cause it has to go in correct,if it's backwards, then you'll tear it up,take your time and it's easy, you wont have a probelem, standerd are easy,i re did my automatic turbo hydromatic, and WOW you talk about complicated gezz, there are so many parts it was un real,so take your time.Of course new clutch plates to.

Use an impact hammer, a hand held ratcheted punch that takes torx bits, twist the head to the left and hit with a mallet or hammer. %26lt;$20, probably borrow 1 from your local auto parts store like O'Reilly's,Torex screws on a clutch for harley 98 sportster?
If you have an impact driver i would suggest getting a snap-on torx bit and using it with the impact driver. This should loosen them up a bit. Also, if they wont budge after that maybe try putting some penetrating oil on them an letting it sit for like 15 minutes and try it again.Torex screws on a clutch for harley 98 sportster?
I forgot the size of the torx screw but go to your local parts store and buy a 1/4 drive torx. The same torx will work on the primaries also, make sure to clean the treads on everything with brakes parts cleaner and put a drop of lock tite on the treads.Torex screws on a clutch for harley 98 sportster?
You need a small flat ended punch that will fit inside the torx head, and a hammer. Set the tip of the punch into the bolt head and back it off slightly, leaving a silght gap and SMACK it with the hammer. You want the punch to impact the bolt....hammer-to-punch SMACK, punch-to-bolt SMACK. Do this 3 or 4 times. This is called %26quot;shocking the bolt%26quot;. Then try the torx bit (T-27)and ratchet to remove the bolt.

If this doesn't work, you will need to chisel it off. With a small SHARP chisel and hammer, cut a groove into a side of the bolt head, then angle the chisel into the slot and firmly tap rapidly with the hammer clounter-clock wise until it breaks free.

This why you should always use Never-Sieze on these bolts, on the threads, and under the bolt head....same applies to the primary chain inspection cover screws, these are tapered, counter sunk bolts that sieze constantly.

What are some techniques/tips for driving to lower harm to the clutch?

I have a hydraulic clutch and I was wondering if anyone could give tips for starts/shifts/driving in general on how to save the clutch. I have a slight concern for the future of changing my clutch, as it is expensive and I would like to prolong it as long as possible.

I drive a 2001 VW GTI, with 57k miles. What are some techniques/tips for driving to lower harm to the clutch?
Learning to Rev-match will save lots of wear on your clutch. The majority of wear on a clutch disc is from the disc having to make up the difference between engine speed and transmission input shaft speed.

Using my 1987 Mazda RX-7 as an example, here's how you rev-match. Let's say I'm cruising along in 3rd gear at 2000rpm (around 30mph) and I want to shift down to 2nd. First, step on the clutch and pull it out of 3rd. With the clutch still in, rev to 3000 as you slot the shifter to 2nd. Then release the clutch and accelerate.

How high you need to rev depends on your transmission's gear ratios. It'll take some practice to get it right, but it'll be seamless when you do. To get an idea of what you need to rev to, I'd suggest taking your car out on an empty stretch of road and keeping it at 2000rpm in 4th gear, then downshifting to 3rd gear and maintaining the same actual speed. You'll find out exactly what the difference is then (mine is 50%, or 1000rpm in this case). In my car, 4th gear at 2000rpm is the same speed as 3rd gear at 3000rpm. 4th gear at 3000rpm would be 3rd at 4500rpm and so on. Your car might be geared differently, so you should take a notebook with you and write down the rpm differences between gears. And most of all, keep your starting speed consistent. I used 2000rpm and found my car has a 50% difference between gears (it goes up to 3000rpm on downshift)

Once you got that down, you might try giving heel-and-toe a try. Basically, you are rev-matching on a downshift while braking.

    Step on the clutch

    Step on brakes,

Downshift and rev-match using the heel of your right foot, while braking with your toe

Release all 3 pedals and accelerateWhat are some techniques/tips for driving to lower harm to the clutch?
DON'T use the clutch to brake. Don't downshift when you are stopping, just shift into neutral and brake normally. Brakepads are a lot cheaper and easier to replace than a clutch.

If you're willing to slightly reduce the life of your transmission, you can shift without using the clutch at all. There are shift-points where the gears match up naturally. Once you find them, you can just quickly jump up gears without the clutch. Having a tachometer really helps to find your shift points. What are some techniques/tips for driving to lower harm to the clutch?
thats a good question. usually clutchs last for a long time ( say every 50k or so ) but it also depends on how you drive.

when starting, usually you will have the car in 1st or second gear when parked, so when you start it, you can just push the clutch to start it. if you were to shift to neutral before starting the car, the clutch wont engage, and therefore adding a slight amount of life too it.

also, upshifting, you have to shift as smooth as possible, when the engine rpm, and trans rpm are about the same. don't give it too much gas when up shifting.

the same applied to down shifting. do it as smooth as possible.

when stopping at a red light, the less you have the clutch pressed in while in gear the better, so shift to neutral if you are going to be at a light for sometime. even when the clutch is pressed in, there is a slight friction going on, not much, but in the long run, it makes a difference. What are some techniques/tips for driving to lower harm to the clutch?
Michael Hunt has the idea to not use your clutch, and it is a good idea. You don't need to look at your rpm gage, it can get you into trouble. Just listen to your engine, it will tell you when to change gears with out the clutch. Most of the time you will start in 1st gear, just go fast enough to get your car rowling. At this time you will use the clutch, now with out the clutch pull it out of 1st and go to 2nd. Don't do it fast just do it easy, now give it gas till to YOU it sounds like time to change to 3rd, pull it out of 2nd - no clutch and go to 3rd. Now if you can't get it out of 2nd slow it down a little, then see if you can pull it out of gear. Now to gear down, don't use your clutch. If in your highest gear, just slow down some pull it out of that gear, to go to your next highest gear, run your rpm up till it falls into that gear. Because as you run your rpm up and trying to push it into gear, (not hard) just hard enough to go into gear, if your rpm is high enough it will just fall into gear. You will learn in time, just keep trying.

How long does anybody know will it take to do this job?How long to change a clutch in a 95 camaro Z28?
It's all common sense. Driveshaft, exhaust, crossmember, starter, trans, pressure plate, flywheel...in that order. You'll have to take the flywheel somewhere to get it resurfaced, but it shouldn't cost an arm and a leg. I'm not sure about your seal...I own a fox chassis Mustang, not a Chevy...I don't see how it could be much different though. Installation is reverse of removal. Don't forget trans fluid. Do yourself a favor...Go real easy on the new clutch for the first 500 or so miles. A well broken-in clutch grabs MUCH better than one that wasn't treated well. To answer your question: With the car on jackstands I'd say maybe one Saturday if you don't run into any major snags. The only Integra clutch I've done was on my son's 1994. The 2000 may be significantly different.

Of course, the front axles come out. Otherwise dis-assembly was no big deal. The job threw us two curves, though. The first was that we couldn't get the pilot bearing out, even breaking an extractor tool. The bearing came out the back of the flywheel! And when we took the transmission down we had to rotate it about 30 degrees to clear something so we had to make the opposite adjustment when putting it back up. That meant we couldn't use a transmission jack, and I actually pulled a muscle in my face getting the transmission to drop into place. Every time I do a clutch I swear it will be the last time.

    2. support rear of engine, drop transmission. clutch will be right there, your book will tell you what you need to know. How to change a clutch in a 1981 chevy c30?

How to change the clutch in a 1997 Volkswagen VW Jetta GLX VR6?

I have to change the clutch in my 1997 Volkwagen Jetta GLX VR6--have instructions but it doesn't say if I have to drop the engine or not? Any other viable information you may have is also appreciated. How to change the clutch in a 1997 Volkswagen VW Jetta GLX VR6?
On my 1999.5 Jetta TDI (quite different, I know) I had to drop the transmission but not the engine. I did this with the car on rhino ramps, and getting the transmission back up was extremely difficult to do by myself. I was not able to do it from beneath, so I ended up standing in front of the car, leaning waaaaaay forward and lifting the tranny into place. This was probably not the best thing I could have done for my back.

On www.tdiclub.com there is a good 100-page guide, with a photo on every page. It's a free download, but you'll have to search through the forums for a little bit to find it. You might want to see if there is one for an A3 body Jetta...I know the website is for TDIs, but for a clutch change TDI vs VR6 shouldn't really matter. How to change the clutch in a 1997 Volkswagen VW Jetta GLX VR6?
Too much info to tell you. Go to an auto parts store and buy a chilton manual. How to change the clutch in a 1997 Volkswagen VW Jetta GLX VR6?
No, you don't need to drop the whole power train. You will need to hang 1sh the engine though because you will need to loosen the front pendulum mount and the back trans mount. I personally will not do this repair on the floor. It's a two person job to drop the trans. because you will need to tilt the back at 1 o'clock then drop or it get caught on the sub frame. How to change the clutch in a 1997 Volkswagen VW Jetta GLX VR6?
Go to your library and look at the Haynes manual, or better yet buy one.

Frankly with your amount of expertise your best bet is to take it to a car repair place.

How much cost to change transmission and clutch?

Hi i was wondering if anybody knows how much it would cost to change a transmission and clutch in a 1998 mitsubishi eclipse gs? also i was wonderin if the company would have a tow truck to tow my car and would it be extra or if i let them do the job it would be free? pleasee help and let me know a rough estimateee thank youHow much cost to change transmission and clutch?
It would depend if you wanted a new transmission or a used one. I would guess the following:

    Clutch $150 to $200

    Transmission $ 500 to $800 used

    Transmission $1600 to $1800 new

    Installation $400 to $500

So I would say the least is $1050 to go with a used trans and a decent new clutch.

And yes, most places charge towing in any case. How much cost to change transmission and clutch?
I dont know excatly how much but i estimate around 1,200 to 2,000.....and im pretty sure their gonna charge you for the towing...How much cost to change transmission and clutch?
Is the shop transmission rebuilder? Are they putting in a used or rebuilt tranny? Rebuild yours? 1500 - 2400

How long can I nurse a clutch for? how much to replace?

I test drove a 93 Corolla and the clutch felt like it was on it's way out (the engagement point was really far up the pedal, and it didn't have much bite).

If I start from a standstill gentley and try to do mostly highway driving can I nurse it a few months?

When I used to work on my car (years ago) it didn't look that hard to change the clutch. How much will the parts cost me? (clutch, throw-out bearing, gear lube...?)

also the timing belt is due for a change, is the 4A-FE a non-interference engine? How long can I nurse a clutch for? how much to replace?
With the clutch, it's hard to say how long it will last but it will start slipping in the highest gear (4th or 5th) first - at this point, it must be replaced immediately. Before panicking, check the clutch adjustment - if it has never been adjusted, you may still have quite a few miles left but if it's already all the way up, you are likely to face the issue pretty soon. Cost of replacement - $400-500.

Technically, this is a non-interference engine but if the belt brakes at high RPM, is still may sustain damage. Also, t-belt replacement should not cost more than $400, and it's cheaper to do it when you have a choice than when you get stranded in the middle of nowhere, and a tow truck - at your expense - pulls you to the nearest shop that may take advantage of you simply because you have no choice. How long can I nurse a clutch for? how much to replace?
Replacing the clutch requires removing the transmission, so it is costly if you have a shop do it...depending how you shop around, it could be 3 - 400 at todays rates.

If you attempt it yourself, about 100 - 150 for parts, and perhaps 20 for a good alignment tool...How long can I nurse a clutch for? how much to replace?
Call around for estimates on cost to repair, but first check to see if the clutch is adjustable, most hydraulic clutches are not. Clutches are not hard to change but it does take time. Be sure to get a repair manual and follow the instructions.

  • How do you remove the hydraulic clutch line from the transmission on a 1992 Ford Ranger?

I'm trying to change the clutch in my 1992 Ford Ranger 2 wheel drive 3.0 V6 I have everything disconnected except for the hydraulic clutch line I went a bought the special tool to do this and I still cant get the line to come out. I tryed using the tool to push the white ring in towards the transmission/slave cylinder and it does niot seem to want to move. can anyone explain what I am doing wrong or what I need to do to remove this line it is the only thing keeping me from droping this trans and replacing the clutch. thank you.How do you remove the hydraulic clutch line from the transmission on a 1992 Ford Ranger?
Sounds like you are doing what needs to be done. Maybe there is dirt in the retainer keeping it from moving. Try spraying some penetrating fluid around it. Also try pushing in on the line and twisting while pressing the white collar, then pull outward%26gt;How do you remove the hydraulic clutch line from the transmission on a 1992 Ford Ranger?
Disconnect the coupling at the transmission, using the clutch coupling removal tool T88T-70522-A or equivalent. Slide the white plastic sleeve toward the slave cylinder while applying a slight tug on the tube.

How much does a typical clutch inspection cost?

I have a Ford Ranger 1996 and have yet to change the clutch. Now it's really tough to shift gears. Some fluid does drip from the gear shift knob on ocassion but not much. How much does a typical clutch inspection cost?
Why gear oil would drip from the shifter knob I have no idea.

But most reputable garages will take a look your clutch and trans for free. They want to do the work. How much does a typical clutch inspection cost?
There should be no charge for the inspection. Just get a estimate to repair the poor shifting.
