Do you NEED to have an Automatic Transmission mounted and installed in a car with running engine to flush it?

Do you NEED to have an Automatic Transmission mounted and installed in a car with running engine to flush it?

Im asking because my Transmission with the No Reverse... in debating whether to just %26quot;Install the Other One%26quot; OR Change the Filter and Fluid in the one thats in there, THEN try Flushing on the NEW Filter if THAT doesnt work (Im having a Pro deal with the gaskets, the A.T. Kits and Filters arent THAT bad,) and THEN install the Transmission and Torque Converter i have in the Trunk. Im also thinking of leaving the Torque COnverter alone, as someone said %26quot;If it goes faster than 45MPH your Torque Converter is Fine%26quot;... so THAT shouldnt be the reason I dont have Reverse then.

As far as Clutch Packs and things.. is it -Possible- to just change One Clutch Pack, IF thats the case? Im -agonizing- as to whether changing the FLuid and Filter (people say clogged filter CAN cause that, had 2 people one with a Cavalier say they put in NEW Fluid and it worked) will.. be worth doing.. that way, the trans i bought could be a Spare and maybe await a Rebuild..

What would YOU do?

I have the 1991 Olds Cutlass Calais 2.5L AT %26quot;Iron Duke%26quot; Tech4 with 170,000 miles, runs -PERFECT- Forward with No Reverse. ABout to check my Trans Fluid again, but Service TIme (to fix that problem, i dont knwo what ill find when the pan comes off) is coming, and its one or the other, .... now snow Yet but Reverse is Missing so far....

Thanks!

(Also this wont be -Me- doing anything, just a Friend's garage, and they are knowledgeable too, as i dont know how to do Mechanical work and am more interested in the car's nody.. some Bondo Hair will be applied next.)Do you NEED to have an Automatic Transmission mounted and installed in a car with running engine to flush it?
Chances are that you have a bad/worn reverse band, its end anchor, or the servo activating it. I had a similar problem ages ago and needed to replace the band. While in there I cleaned things and replaced all O rings %26amp; seals. Total cost: about $75 and my labor. Gained: working transmission and working knowledge of same.Do you NEED to have an Automatic Transmission mounted and installed in a car with running engine to flush it?
