I have a honda CB250. I changed the clutch friction plates because the clutch was slipping and it was the right fix. However now when i ride it it is very hard to shift from 1st or neutral to 2nd gear. Once on 2nd gear it is easy to shift to the other gears. I'm afraid that your problem is linked to three possible causes: a bad shift detent spring or the shift fork for 2nd gear is bent, or possibly the shift shaft is bent. While changing the clutch plates, the mechanic concentrates only on the plates BUT sometimes it is the peripheral assembly which is also just as important. You could try to blip the throttle just before the gear change. Or you could try to tighten the clutch cable just a little bit and see if there is any improvement.
