How do I know if I have to change my flywheel?

I heard you can only tell if you remove the clutch and look. But I want to order parts now. My car's been sitting for 3 months (90 Celica) cause when I drive it, it doesn't make it up any hills. I bought it 5 months ago, and the guy told me I needed to change the clutch.

When I drove it home, it had no power and never made it past 60mph.

So I don't know how long he was driving on it...

I'm changing the clutch.. But does anyone think I should order the flywheel? I really don't want to pay someone to see if I need a new flywheel. Thank you guysHow do I know if I have to change my flywheel?
The flywheel really won't make a difference with power. If your teeth on the flywheel are worn badly or are broke and missing then yes replace it. This will only fix your vehicle though if your car is not turning over when you are trying to start it or your starter is making a loud grinding sound. Check that by taking your starter off and and inspecting the teeth on the flywheel and your starter gear. If it's a loss of power or slipping clucth you are trying to fix then replace the pressure plate, clutch plate. I wouldn't replace your flywheel though unless you just want to spend extra money. How do I know if I have to change my flywheel?
that's a easy one remove the starter and look inside the flywheel area and see if the teeth are chewed up or damaged chances are you might want to go ahead and replace the flywheel so you wont have problems down the line later on and why not prevent a problem from happening when you can avoid the problem by replacing something that could give you problems in a very short time if it was me i would go ahead and replace it and if its been on there since it was new then more then likely it will need to be changed anyways. take care and god bless. How do I know if I have to change my flywheel?
You have an older car (1990) and will have your clutch off. Literally, it is only about 5 bolts more to remove and replace the flywheel.

Since it's a manual, and you have the clutch off, I would do it as smart preventative maintenance.

If looking for wear, you would look for tell tale signs of abuse such as wear spots, worn teeth, broken teeth, marring/scoring, cracks, etc...How do I know if I have to change my flywheel?
I doubt it flywheels rarely go bad and when they do it is usually because some teeth have broken off and can make it hard to the starter to engage it when trying to start the car. it sounds to me that all you need is the clutchHow do I know if I have to change my flywheel?
You might be able to get it resurfaced. Kind of like getting your brake rotors cut. It is hard to tell until you get it out.

There may be an inspection cover where you can see it to tell how bad it is.How do I know if I have to change my flywheel?
When you change the clutch you need to replace or resurface the flywheel. Because of the age of your car you should just replace it.How do I know if I have to change my flywheel?
If it starts fine then no. Flywheels rarely just go bad. They are solid steel.
